Hello friends!

My name is Melanie, and I’m the creator of It’s a Bookish Thing 13!

I consider myself a “professional fangirl”, because my whole day consists of freaking out over anything. And I do mean everything. At one point, I decided to share my obsession with all things books/tv/movies/etc, and that’s how my bookstagram account came to be! Ever since I posted that first picture, I’ve received nothing but love from so many people, and it’s truly been such a rewarding experience.

Because I have a LOT to say about books, and my Instagram captions can only be SO long, I decided to take the next step and create this blog, where I can go in-depth on my thoughts & opinions on the books I read.

Some facts about me:

  • I kind of love to read. Shocker, right?
  • I’m 21 years old.
  • I’m currently working on my Psychology degree, to hopefully pursue a career in Law.
  • I absolutely LOVE to write, and create. I’m working on my first official novel, and it’s been amazing.
  • I’m a Ravenclaw.
  • Favorite series: Throne of Glass series, ACOTAR series, Lunar Chronicles, Stephanie Perkins companion novels, The Twilight Saga (#noshame), and newly addition is Harry Potter Series (I just finished reading the books, and GAWHD they’re perfection.

I’ll be using this blog to review as much of the books I read as I can; the most common genres are YA-fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary & new-adult. I like to think I read a bit of everything, but these are the genres I generally reach for. I absolutely love hearing your guys’ opinions on books, so recommendations are VERY MUCH appreciated!

That’s pretty much all I have to say, I can’t wait to hear from you guys!

Thank you soo much for your answer, Melanie. That was way more than I expected. I understand that choosing what you want to study and major in is not something you can extrinsically explain, as its based on your personality and experiences. Everything you said makes sense (don’t worry!), your answer was more than enough.
I guess, as someone whose first language is not English, I kind of focused more on the linguistic aspect of law. I am more into social issues/causes, as that’s what I have focused in high school. What I know about law is that it is the root of creating social change, as it gives you that legal power. I don’t know where I’m going with this haha, but I guess I need to figure out more what kind of action I want to pursue in society before deciding? (My other option is MBA, and I’ve been reading a lot into that lately). Thanks again 🙂

      No problem!
From what you wrote, I think you’d do great in a Psych degree, and then continuing with law! Don’t worry, basically no one knows what they want to do when they get to uni. I’m in my third year, and this is the year when I finally settled on law.

Hi Melanie, nice to meet you! 🙂 First of all – love your bookstagram and blog! Second, (this is a more personal question) I’m starting college in fall this year, and I’m thinking about majoring in sociology/psychology/linguistics for college (in US). I plan to do an MBA/Law degree afterwards, but until now I’m not sure of what direction I’m going. I wanted to ask you, considering that you have more experience than me, why you plan to study law? Is there something particular about it?

Hi Michelle, your blog is pretty phenomenal, so it’s a huge honor, thank you for stopping by! ❤
As for your question, I'll try to give a straight answer as to why I want to study law, but be warned, it's a lot of factors meshed together. For one thing, I've always believed in justice, and I've always been one to defend others, even if it was a simple thing like defending my sister when my mom bugged her about her grades. It's just something that I've always considered to be a good way to go for me, because of what I believe in, my personality, and what I see for myself. I've also always loved the topic itself, and I have to admit, TV shows like Suits have swayed me towards getting my law degree. ❤
As for what I've experienced in Uni, I haven't really taken many courses that have directly to do with law, because my curriculum consists mainly of Psych courses, but I've tried to take some classes like Forensic Psychology, and Political Science, courses like those that have to do with law in some way, to see if that's the way to go for me.
I hope this made sense, it's hard for me to explain why I love it, and why I think I should go for it, it's just something that's always interested me, and I'll see how it goes!
